How to Grow the best leeks? successfully./කොහොමද සාර්ථකව ලීක්ස් වගා කරන්නේ.
- Sow leek seeds in pots or modules of peat-free seed or multi-purpose compost in spring. Keep them moist and transplant them to the garden in summer, when they are about 20 cm high.
- Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained, fertile soil. You can add manure or compost to enrich the soil before planting.
- Make holes with a dibber, about 20 cm deep and 15 cm apart, and drop a seedling in each hole. Water them well to settle the soil around the roots.
- Keep the plants well watered and weed-free throughout the growing season. You can also mulch the soil to conserve moisture and prevent weeds.
- To blanch the stems and make them more tender, you can mound soil around the base of the plants as they grow. Alternatively, you can use cardboard tubes or collars to cover the stems.
- Harvest leeks from autumn to spring, depending on the variety. Use a fork to lift them carefully from the ground. You can store them in the fridge or a cool place for a few weeks.
- I hope this helps you to grow your own leeks. They are a great vegetable to have in your garden. 😊
