How To Grow the Best Radish? Successfully. කොහොමද සාර්ථකව රාබු වගා කරන්නේ?
Growing radishes is a rewarding experience as they are one of the fastest maturing vegetables and some varieties are ready to harvest in three weeks and see below for tips on growing radishes.
- Choose the Right Variety – Decide on the variety of radishes you want to plant. For beginners, Cherry Belle radishes are recommended as they mature quickly, in about 22 days, and have a mild flavor.
- Prepare the Soil – Radishes thrive in loose, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter like compost or manure. Ensure the soil is free of rocks and has a pH around 7.4 to prevent club root disease.
- Sowing Seeds – Plant radish seeds directly in the ground or in a pot, about ½ inch deep and 1 inch apart. If you’re planting in rows, space the rows about 6 inches apart.
- Sunlight and Watering – Radishes need full sun or partial shade and regular watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Too much shade can result in large leaves but small roots.
- Thinning Seedlings – Once the seedlings emerge, thin them so that they are 2-3 inches apart. This gives the roots enough space to develop properly.
- Fertilizing – Add more compost or a balanced fertilizer a few weeks after planting to encourage strong growth.
- Harvesting – Radishes are ready to harvest when their roots are about 1 inch in diameter.
Remember, radishes are cool-season crops, so it’s best to plant them in spring or fall.
